Lancaster MP presses Minister for fracking meeting
Lancaster’s MP has written to the new Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, asking for an urgent meeting to discuss fracking in Lancashire.
Cat Smith had written to Sajid Javid’s predecessor, Greg Clark, earlier this month but says the response she received failed to make it clear whether the Minister would be willing to meet with her or not.
Mr Clark has since been replaced by Mr Javid in Theresa May’s reshuffle.
Ms Smith said: “I was disappointed that Greg Clark did not appear willing to meet with me to discuss this issue of vital importance to my constituents.
“The local community have made it very clear they do not want fracking in Lancashire and Lancashire County Council took the sensible, democratic decision not to allow Cuadrilla to frack at Little Plumpton and Roseacre Wood.
“This should be respected by a Government that claims to champion localism.
“The reshuffle gives the Government a fresh chance to start listening to the people of Lancashire.
“I very much hope they take it.”
